Bio:
Julianne Hough (pronounced "Huff") came to national prominence as the two-time professional dance champion on ABC's Dancing With the Stars, but the 19 year-old says her ultimate goal is a career in country music. Growing up one of five Utah-born siblings, Hough says her family was sometimes referred to as the "blonde Osmonds."

Julianne has become known as “that hot chick on dancing with the stars,” she may be the sole reason men tune into the show, disregarding the fact that they’ll be forced to see former sports heroes at incredibly low points in their lives.

Every country artist once had a “day job” that commonly used music business term for an occupation that pays the bills and fills the void between hopeful aspiration and bonafide success. However, never in the history of country music has someone taken a more celebrated path on the road to their country music dream than Julianne Hough (pronounced “Huff”).

A triple threat as a singer, actress and dancer, Julianne is already known to millions of fans as the two-time professional dance champion on ABC-TV’s top-rated Dancing with the Stars (DWTS). The show, which pairs professional dancers with music, sports, film and television celebrities, has become a cultural phenomenon and Julianne its top star.

Though Julianne has been winning world dance titles since her early teens, her ultimate goal has always been a career in country music. Her newly signed deal with Universal Music Group Nashville (UMGN) is providing her the vehicle to realize that dream. “I’ve always wanted to sing country music,” says the 19 year-old blonde. “I’ve grown up with country music. I love how real everybody is, not just the artists, but the fans.”

Growing up one of five Utah-born siblings, Julianne says her family was sometimes referred to as the “blonde Osmonds,” earning a reputation for their talent and professionalism. At age 10 her parents separated and Julianne immersed herself in dancing. An opportunity presented itself to study performing arts in London, which started a period of intense training and being far away from family and in a fast-paced city, was forced to grow up fast.

After five years in the U.K., Julianne elected to leave behind a blossoming international career and move back to the U.S. “I really wanted to sing and I knew if I stayed in London, I wouldn’t be able to do that; I would only be dancing, so I had to make a really tough decision: ‘Do I stay here and pursue a career that I know I’m going to succeed at? Or do I go back home, start from scratch and pursue what I really want to do?’ A lot of people told me that I was crazy and that I’d never make it.”

Talent, discipline and determination are a potent combination that generally prove skeptics wrong, and that’s exactly what Julianne did. She moved to Los Angeles, knowing she could earn her living as a dancer while pursuing her musical dreams.

She started making regular trips to Nashville in the rare time she had off from the TV show and the DWTS tour. Her Los Angeles management firm introduced her to management in Nashville, which led to her meeting veteran producer David Malloy (Eddie Rabbitt, Reba McEntire). The two teamed to record “Will You Dance With Me” for an American Red Cross fund raising project that benefited Kansas tornado victims. “It was so amazing,” said Julianne. “We released the record to iTunes and Wal-Mart the week I won with Apolo. The song received quite a reaction on iTunes and peaked at #8 on their country charts despite never being released to radio.”

Soon after, Julianne landed a deal with Universal Music Group Nashville and a spot on the Mercury Nashville roster, a fitting home for a newcomer who cites McEntire and Shania Twain as her chief influences, both of which fall under UMGN.

Recorded in Nashville and produced by Malloy, Julianne’s debut disc revealed her appreciation for country music’s roots as well as her fresh-faced contributions to the genre’s future. She has a warm, textured voice that is equally suited to feisty up-tempo tunes and contemplative ballads, both of which can be found on her debut. “I love story songs and message songs,” she says, “but I also love quirky, fun, up-tempo songs that make you want to just get up and move.”

In May, 2008 Julianne released her first single, a country music song brilliantly titled “Will You Dance With Me.” The song rose to #8 on the itunes list of “Top Country Songs” as well as number #2 on the list of “songs that use their title in hopes of reminded the listener of where they might know the recording artist from.” Currently Julianne is dating upcoming Country Music star Chuck Wicks, who she met this past Summer on the Brad Paisley Tour.

The debut single, “That Song In My Head,” is a buoyant effort that is incredibly infectious. The song captures the rapturous joy of a burgeoning relationship and celebrates the way a song can become the soundtrack for those emotions. Julianne’s voice perfectly conveys the sense of delicious expectation in the lyric.

Julianne turns in a sultry performance on the sensual ballad “Hide Your Matches.” “The chorus is ‘I’m about to lose all I am, right here in your arms.’ It’s a romantic love song that is really sexy,” she says. “It’s really sensual and beautiful.”

Though she loves songs that evoke a smile, a sigh or an occasional dance step, Julianne doesn’t shy away from making music that says something profound. Among the favorites on her debut is a song called “Help Me, Help You.” “That’s a message song and it’s pretty intense,” she says. “It’s about a girl who is trying to help her friend who is an alcoholic. It says what I’d want to say to a friend in trouble.”

One of the songs on her new record speaks directly to young women. “’Jimmy Ray McGee’ is a really great song,” Julianne relates. “It talks about peer pressure and tells young girls ‘If you don’t want to do something, if you don’t feel right about it, then don’t do it!’”

‘“My Hallelujah Song’ is a Craig Wiseman tune,” says Julianne, “and I just feel like everybody needs a hallelujah song. No matter what you’re doing in life---whether you are working at your dad’s company, playing soccer or being a little ballerina---that’s your hallelujah song. It’s when you feel like you’re right where you’re supposed to be and I’m happy right where I am.”

Indeed, Julianne Hough is living her hallelujah song. After years of success in the dance field, she’s finally landed an opportunity to sing country music and she’s reveling in the opportunity. “I was scared that people would say, ‘Just because she got a little bit of recognition on the TV show, she thinks she can make a record,’” she confesses, “but I’ve been wanting to do this a long, long time and I hope the music speaks for itself.”

Indeed it does. Julianne Hough’s debut is a compelling collection of songs about the joys and challenges of everyday life delivered by an evocative young voice. It’s the perfect vehicle to carry her from her successful day job to the realization of a dream come true.

Review:
One night, not too very long ago, America television viewers watched the birth of a potential Super Star before their very eyes when Julianne Hough danced with her partner Olympic Gold Medalist Apolo Anton Ohno on the hit TV show "Dancing with the Stars Mondays and Tuesdays on ABC-TV.

Julianne left her family in Utah to live and train for her dancing career in London, England at the age of 10. She became the youngest and only American to ever win the British Junior Latin Championship, and the International Championship both junior and youth. While in London, Julianne attended a performing arts school and discovered a passion for acting and singing.

Julianne moved back to Utah at the age of 15 to live with her family of 10 brothers and sisters. After graduating high school, Julianne moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of acting, singing, and dancing. After a brief time being there, she landed a part as one of the dancers on the short-lived 2007 ABC-TV show "
Show Me The Money" starring "Boston Legal"  and "Star Trek" actor William Shatner.

Julianne was an Assistant Choreographer on Gwen Stefani's "
Wind It Up" music video and toured with the "Dancing with the Stars Tour". She got on the 4th season of DWTS due to an injury to another professional dancer; the rest is becoming history.

Julianne's first season on the ABC-TV top hit show "Dancing with the Stars" was in 2007. Performing before millions of avid DWTS viewers, and at just 18 years old, Julianne is the youngest professional dancer to ever participate. Julianne was paired of with two-time Olympic Gold Medallist Apolo Anton Ohno for DWTS -Season 4, and are giving the older professional and other celebrities making a run for the trophy. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba called their Samba routine shown in the large picture above "Perfection"; Judge Len Goodman said everything came together in their performance - the best of the whole season so far; and Judge Bruno Tonioli said America was in SHOCK after they performed. Julianne and Apolo received a standing ovation from the DWTS studio audience.

Julianne's career is getting started "like a rocket sled on rails" as CW McCall once sang in the hit song "Convoy". Julianne is multitalented as a singer, dancer, choreographer; and maybe someday soon, we'll get to see her acting on the silver screen?

Julianne has all of the essentials to soar to the top of any profession she chooses. Her personality and smile are like a huge spotlight flooding the room when she walks into the door.

She has trained long and hard, now the rewards will no doubt come streaming her way like a tidal wave!

Her brother is also a champion dancer. Could they remind he fans of another Utah brother and sister duo of years gone by?  Maybe another variety TV show? Only time will tell?

Meanwhile, we just have to get a comfortable chair on Monday and Tuesday nights for a few more weeks to see if there is more "gold in them thar California Hills" for Julianne and Apolo?

Julianne began recording her first Country Music album in the Summer of 2007.  Her first single "Will You Dance with Me?" was #8 on the iPod® download list in Country Music!

In the Fall of 2007, she was been partnered with another champion Helio Castroveves; two-time Indy 500 Winner for DWTS Season V.  They won the Championship of Danncing With The Stars V on November 27; a back-to-back win for Julianne!

On March 4, 2008, Julianne released her second single on Country Music airwaves and iTunes "That Song in My Head". Her debut Country album was released May 20th.

We all now have the chance to get this album in our hands to enjoy even more of her constantly being discovered talents.

She danced again on "
Dancing With The Stars VI" March, 2008 on ABC-TV with her new dance partner Adam Carolla; unfortunately they did not make it a Three-Pete.

Her debut album "A Song in My Head" came out May 20th made #1 Country Album opening week on iTunes and #3 overall on the charts of all music formats selling 67,000 units the first week!

Julianne toured with Brad Paisley during the Summer and Fall of 2008.

J
ewel, Brad Paisley, Julianne and Chuck Wicks; The Hershey's Paisley Party Tour 2008

Had my OWN personal "Meet & Greet" with her in Kansas City at Aug 1, concert at the Sprint Center as part of the Hershey's Presents "The Paisley Party Tour 2008". She is VERY personable young lady!

Julianne received an 2008 Emmy Nomination for her choreography on "DWTS".

She also has done catchy and upbeat commercial for The Wrigley Company's Juicy Fruit Gum.

Julianne's first Chritmas Album was sold only at Target Stores and rapidly movied up the charts to #8.

She announced she might not be back for "DWTS VIII" or "DWTSIX" on the day after being eliminated from "DWTS VII". She stated she wished to concentrate on her new expanding career in Country Music as a singer.

Julianne has obtained a place to live in Nashville, and is on to prepare for her booked appearances as one of the opening acts for the George Strait 2009 Tour.

Quote From GeorgeStrait.com:
"George is pleased to announce one of his opening acts for the tour, Mercury Nashville recording artist and two-time Dancing With The Stars champion, Julianne Hough. Hough will join Strait on most of his summer shows including all of his Amphitheatre performances and the Cheyenne Frontier Days".

The entertainment world will no doubt keep calling at Julianne's door! - JerryTAZ Webmaster.
